SENIA

(Special Education Network & Inclusion Association)

SENIA was established in China in 2002 with the goal of providing a network for special education professionals working in China to share resources and supports with each other. Since then, SENIA has grown to an association of educators, professionals, and parents reaching regions throughout Asia and beyond.

With SENIA's reach growing to regions of the world outside of Asia, the organization is transforming to reflect its global reach. During the annual conference this past February in Honk Kong, SENIA's new name was revealed - Special Education Network & Inclusion Association. SENIA looks forward to spreading its mission: To advocate for and provide resources/supports for differently-abled individuals to areas outside of Asia, with new chapters in Europe, United Arab Emirates, India and Africa!

We at IDS share in SENIA's vision : to live in an inclusive world where every individual is supported, resources are accessible, potential is maximized, and action is inspired.

Sea Change Mentoring

Ellen Mahoney

Sea Change Mentoring provides consulting, professional development and program administration to international schools and organisations who are interested in building youth mentoring programming in to what they do. Sea Change Mentoring also matches global nomad, expat and third culture young people ages 16 to 23 with professional adults around the world who also grew up in international environments. They help young people identify the skills and insights they picked up overseas and apply them to their personal, academic and career goals. At the same time, they help kids develop networks and strategies to face some of the challenges that are specific to growing up global.

Families in Global Transition (FIGT)

Families in Global Transition is a welcoming forum for globally mobile individuals, families, and those working with them. We promote cross-sector connections for sharing research and developing best practices that support the growth, success and well-being of people crossing cultures around the world.

The first Families in Global Transition conference was held on May 16, 1998, and originated from a discussion around Ruth van Reken’s kitchen table the previous year.

Since then, the conferences have grown as has the reach. Yet the warmth, the welcome, the empathy and knowledge sharing that we associate with all our expatriate kitchen tables is the hallmark of Families in Global Transition.

It started out as a commitment to hold a series of one-day workshops to bring families affected by transitions and the chaos they created to experts who could help them.

Our current conferences are three day events bringing people from across cultures and sectors: corporate, small business entrepreneurs, international schools, relocation, diplomacy, not for profit, academia, media and the arts. The three day event is designed with a variety of presentations, workshops, interactive discussions and keynote sessions. Interspersed with the activity are opportunities to meet, connect and inspire.
